Lexigraph Provides Shortcut to Long Term Variable Data Printing Success. (January 2004)
Harwick, PA – Lexigraph, Inc. together with BFS Business Printing (Boston, MA) are producing their 14th consecutive quarterly brokerage statements for New England Securities (also in Boston). The project began in the summer of 2000, when New England Securities outgrew the manual process they’d been using to prepare and print account books for each of their customers. They lacked printing expertise, so they turned to BFS for output, bindery and fulfillment.
BFS Business Printing was fully prepared to handle the production, but lacked some of the programming and data processing skills required to complete this complex Variable Data Print job. They turned to Lexigraph to produce charts, graphs and text content for the saddle-stitched books. The result was a production database that imported data supplied by the brokerage firm, generated the unique content for each statement as well as a Book Ticket File to merge the graphic components together to print each book on the Xeikon press at BFS.
At the end of each fiscal quarter, the three companies go through the process to turn data from the New England Securities Information System into finished books that BFS mails to each customer.
Room for Growth
The project began almost four years ago with 16 page statements for more than 3,000 accountholders, and was quickly expanded to include an additional account group. In 2003, BFS traded its Xeikon press for an HP Indigo device. Lexigraph provided Argon Variable Data Proofing and Translation software to allow the job to continue without interruption.
“There’s lots of Variable Data software on the market,” says Joe Kelley, Director of New Business Development at BFS. “We didn’t need more tools – we needed a complete system. Lexigraph acts as our ‘Service Bureau for Variable Data’ to handle the parts that are out of our core area of expertise. We focus on the best service for our customer.”
Lexigraph has completed similar projects for a wide variety of businesses, ranging from health care and employee benefits programs to web-based marketing collateral systems. The company’s production team fills in the areas where partner needs help, and follows up with software, training and support to make the partner self-sufficient whenever they’re ready.

Think121 Partners with Major Printing Companies to Create a Variable
Data Printing Benchmark Test (Feb. 3, 2003)
This single benchmark test can be run in the native variable data
language of every digital color press on the market to verify the
performance of the RIP and caching system. The benchmark job is a
four-page marketing brochure with versioned and personalized variable
content on each page, including photos, text, illustrations and charts.
The test suite scales from a hundred records with modest variability
to the full run, with 20,000 pages and up to 1.6 million image
combinations. There's a combination that will show off the production
"sweet spot" of any variable data print system. "The benchmark gave us an
apples-to-apples comparison," says George Stubbs, Vice President of
Manufacturing for Standard Register in Dayton, OH. "We can now make a
straightforward business decision on which machine will fit our needs."

pdfc In Action (5/1/01)
The new pdfc variable data merge engine is now in production at On-Demand Technologies in
Overland Park, Kansas (www.odtinc.com).
pdfc, generating more than 1,600 PDF pages per second on a 1Ghz PC server box,
drives both black and white and Indigo TurboStream equipment.
As far as we know this is the worlds fastest performance for PDF-based variable data systems.
PDF Manufacturing (4/16/01)
Think121.com is pleased to offer complete, end-to-end services and technologies for
delivering graphic-art-quality PDF electronically and in print for variable data,
versioning, business, marketing communications, and demand print application. We call this combination of
services and technologies PDF Manufacturing. Unlike a traditional "workflow", PDF manufacturing
connects the internet, IT data, graphic arts assets and business rules to build reliable, scalable
document delivery processes that share production across both print and web delivery.
Why build twice for internet and print delivery? PDF manufacturing can help you reduce costs and
leverage existing assets while maintaining total graphic arts quality.
The benefits of PDF manufacturing include: saving money by developing once for web and print,
automating production and delivery of versioned and personalized documents, and getting more use
from existing IT and graphic arts assets.

Amaranth PDF Compiler
Think121.com demonstrated its new PDF compiler technology, called Amaranth,
at the On Demand show in New York City during the last week of February.
Amaranth allows certain types of PDF manipulations (overlay, merge, replacement, etc.)
as well as applications like pdfExpress to operate on PDF files at incredible speed.
Think121.com demonstrated a simple mail merge application with varying
text and signatures that created more than 1,000 PDF pages per second.
This technology will be available in a new suite of think121.com products
available later this year. Stop by the last session of the PDF Developers
Day at Seybold Boston (April 10th) for a demonstration of this technology.
Amaranth technology will be available for PC, Mac, and Unix platforms as
easy to use server applications, Acrobat plug-ins, and COM components.
CGATS VDX/PPML Standardization Effort
As part of the CGATS effort to standardize a variable data exchange format
think121.com is making available vdxppml, a GNU GPL open source
application that will make PPML and VDX interoperable. Click

containing the source code.
ARGON PPML/PDF Viewer
Think121.com is proud to announce the first showing (11/8/00) of its ARGON PPML/PDF viewer technology.
PPML, an XML-based language developed by PODI, is an emerging
standard for variable data printing that is rapidly gaining support from many digital press and
printer vendors. Our ARGON technology allows you to view PPML containing PDF directly from
within Acrobat as well as convert PPML/PDF directly to PDF.
